Not sure what we were thinking…
This bridge doesn’t look too bad does it? After 90 miles or so of crappy snow driving, the pavement is dry. In fact, it wasn’t really all that bad even though the winds were so high they were convoying “high profile” vehicles. I felt sorry for the guy whose trailer had some kind of problem and he had to *stop* right in the middle of the bridge and get out of his vehicle to deal with it.
We decided that lunch (and whine for me!) in St. Ignace was a good idea, so we went to the Driftwood Restaurant and visited some of Victoria’s fish. She’s one of the GG’s farmer’s market girlfriends.
We actually had pretty dry pavement for about the next 50 miles but as we approached the Sault Ste. Siberia city limits, we got blasted with lake effect snow. Don’t let Mr. Golden Sun fool you. He was not much help. You know the expression “a weak sun”?
And here’s the loverly view of the Soo Locks park from our hotel room.
Meanwhile, back on The Planet Ann Arbor, the beach urchins took a sisterly hike and ended up at the Jolly Pumpkin for a beer or whatever. Kinda wish I was there.
One more. The dern lake effect snow hovering over Sault Ste. Siberia has *finally* seemed to abate somewhat. Knock on wood bigtime!
And again… So, where did we eat tonight? We were hoping for the Palace Saloon, which is right next door but it was closed. As was the hotel restaurant and Zorba’s and Karl’s and everything else except for Frank’s (which is wonderful but we wanted a cocktail or whatever) and Subway… I wondered out loud, “I wonder if the Antlers is open?” I had googled but didn’t find holiday hours. The GG called them and yes yes yes they were open until 8:00 PM. Chop chop! It was wonderful there. Good food, ultra-friendly staff, not a whole lot of customers, and the usual plethora of stuffed aminals. And we could see Canananada from our window seat. Love.

I don’t like the weather, but I love the rest. What a lot of cool ambiance that Antlers place has!

Have not been to the Antlers in way too long. Not likely to make it until…next summer?
Locks look so quiescent all white and quiet. Love the pictures from your window-for-the-weekend….
