Meet me (or not) in Grayling

Up at 0-skunk-30 and over to DTW to pick up my San Franciscan. Back over to the Planet Ann Arbor to pick up Mouse and have breakfast at Cafe Zola. Dropped off Mouse at her house and then headed over to the Landfill. Lizard Breath took a shower after being on a plane all night and KW ran a couple of errands. And then we waited for Mouse to come and pick up Lizard and I could’ve gotten on the road but I waited for Mouse so I could sit with my baby for a bit. “But Moom”, said my quarter-centenarian baby, “I’m really not a baby, you know.” Of course I know that but just for five minutes I wanted to sit and hold her. Right there on the Green Couch in the same spot I used to sit with her all those years ago.

Mouse came along pretty much as scheduled but Troll-land was having a hard time spitting me out. The toilet problem from last night is indeed fixed but now it seems to need a new, er, ballcock. So I had to wait to see what the last flush would do and yes, I did end up having to take the top of the toilet tank and lift up the blasted ballcock before we left.

We did all eventually blast off the planet somehow and for a while, I was driving ahead of the 20-somethings but finally, they called and said they needed to stop for gas and I told them something like “aloha”. I went on, feeling pretty good to be driving alone. And then. The GG called. Can you meet me in Grayling and follow me up with this boat and trailer. Sigh. I have ditched one tandem-drive for another. An unplanned one. And so both the GG and I got to Grayling. We were there at the same time. But I was at the Icehouse quilt store and the GG was at the tire store and DMV for boat registration.

In the end, the GG gave me the go-ahead to go on to the Yooperland alone. And so, I did. And when I got here, My Dear Uncle Harry helped me carry in my bags and I walked the beach and I had beer and popcorn with the Regenstreifs on the beach and I swam (gorgeous warm water, missing you UKW).

    Yep, missing you too!!!
I love to connect with the beach through your words, and can almost feel my feet scuffing in the sand.
We have ponds which are warming up for swimming, which I did twice yesterday. . . but it really is not the same as the clear water of Gitchee Gumee, and the sand bars that allow you to wade in at your own pace.
    Enjoy!

Oh, both your daughters are there–what fun!! I’ve been spoiled this past year but it all changes now. BEER is yummy on a hot Friday night! I know this from experience.

our basement toilet developed that same ballcock problem and then, oddly, healed itself. but i know it’s just a matter of time.
